It's Never Too Late... Nunca Es Tarde... A Bilingual Story

It's Never Too Late... Nunca Es Tarde... A Bilingual Story

from $13.50

By Maria Beatrice Romero. Why would two young people, strangers to each other, leave their country for the U.S. and independently arrive to a remote northern California town? They’d become bilingual, meet, fall in love, marry, and produce a daughter who insistently asked questions beginning with “Why?” Maria Beatrice Romero is that daughter. This lovely little book contains photos, newspaper clippings, and indigenous designs to illustrate the story of an immigrant family’s life during the first half of the 20th century.

In an effort to learn more about her family, the author traveled to Spain, France and Mexico talking to relatives and unearthing family papers.

With a warm touch, she pieces together her family story about how her mother and father independently worked their way north from Mexico to Humboldt County where they met, married and lived on 6th Street in Eureka while he worked in the mills of Samoa.

The author relates fond family memories and compiles many of the proverbs and sayings her father was well known for propounding. What makes this book even more special is that it is bi-lingual, the first half Spanish, the second English.

These remarkable books are fairly new to the Barnum shelves, but at the proverb from one says "It's never too late when good things arrive."
