Peggy Wheeler will tell the story of Humboldt’s only known female lighthouse keeper. Sarah Johnson began tending the Humboldt Harbor Lighthouse in 1857 as a widow with a newborn baby and five other children.
”I hope to take the audience with me,” Wheeler says, “as the layers of Sarah’s story reveal themselves through a parade of resources: international records, federal archives, local maps and documents, newspaper and magazine articles, genealogy sites, oral histories from descendants, and one very special photograph.”
