HCHS Events: Saturday Speaker Series

Saturday Lecture Programs are sponsored and organized by the Humboldt County Historical Society in partnership with the Clarke Historical Museum. They are hosted at the Museum (240 E Street, Eureka) on the first Saturday of every month. The programs are always FREE but seating is limited - come early to reserve a seat!

All lectures will be available in person and online
unless otherwise announced.

The Eureka Theater at 80

Join Chuck and Wendy Petty for “The Eureka Theater at 80” on Saturday, December 7 at 1:00 p.m., in the first-floor conference room of the Humboldt County Library. 1313 Third Street, Eureka. The lecture is part of the ongoing lecture series sponsored by Humboldt County Historical Society. Admission is free, and everyone is invited. 

During their talk, Chuck and Wendy will discuss the history of Redwood Theaters and its founder George Mann, his original plans which included a hotel, and his eventual building of the theater in 1939. Since 2005, Chuck and Wendy Petty have been behind the restoration of this fine Streamline Moderne structure back to its original grandeur. A dedicated core of volunteers have helped make this restoration happen.
