Some of the Humboldt County families
and organizations represented in our collections

Among our photographic collections are the work of photographers Lloyd Stine and Peter Antheil, Seely Studios, and photos commissioned by the Greater Eureka Chamber of Commerce. The photo collection is organized by subject, with images of Humboldt County scenes, including, but not limited to, communiy events, town centers, homes, harbors, bridges, ships, mills, and scenes of rural life.

The Melendy family has contributed photos and manuscripts of Humboldt County history collected by Howard and H.Brett Melendy. Melvin Krei donated photo albums and scrapbooks, photographs and correspondence from Carl Christensen, centered around Humboldt Bay maritime history. Ina and Noel Harris donated boxes of records having to do with Humboldt County labor history. George Albert, Jr., donated the research that went into his unpublished work about military units of Humboldt County. Denis Edeline has contributed portions of his research. We have wanted notices collected by Sheriff T.M.Brown.

Among the families that have contributed collections of family documents, usually including photographs, are: Ida May and Frederick Anthony; Frederick Axe, Baadsgaard/Schuler, Bret Bradley, June Christopher, Delaney/Muse, DeOrsay/Janes, Curt Gillis, Severn Jacobsen, Wallace Look, Jay Willard and Woodcock/Dinsmore. Photo albums came to us from the Redmond family, from D.L.Thornbury.

Among our scrapbooks are those compiled by: Rich Cederberg; the Eureka Woman's Club; the Hanrahan-Connolly Co.; Florence C.Mathews;Wallace Null; Thomas H.Selvage; the Sequoia Chapter of American Guild of Organists; the Sequoia Club of Music; Clarence E.Tabor; We have two scrapbooks, compiled by Mary Jane Phegley, that document the history of Eureka streetcars, she received much of the material from Lyle Wilson.

Among our business collections are records from the Bohmansson Pharmacy, H.H.Buhne store, Dalys Dept. Store, Dickson and Dickson, Dolbeer and Carson Lumber Co., Elk River Mill and Lumber Co., Everybody's Furniture Mart, Garberville Mercantile, Henry Cox and Son, Humboldt Bay Logging Co., Humboldt Nurseries, Lambert and McKeehan, Lazio's, Mahan and Mahan law firm, Weck and Nance Pharmacy and White House Furniture.

Organizations that have donated a portion of their records to the Society include the Arcata Women's Club, Associated Charities, the Amity Club, the Avenue of the Giants Assn., the Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, the Humboldt County Peace Center, the local chapter of the NAACP, the Peace and Freedom Party, Humboldt Chapter #16 of the Reserve Officers Assn., Save-the Redwoods-League, the Taxpayers' Bureau and the Travel Club.
