Originally published in 1983, Denis Edeline's history of the many towns and communities along the Salt River and the Island is available again at the Historical Society's Barnum House Bookstore while supplies last. This is a detailed history with many photographs of the families and small businesses and industries of Port Kenyon, Arlynda, and Meridian, as well as the little communities that once flourished on the Island. Included are histories and photographs of the individual sawmills, canneries, and creameries; wharves, steamers, tug boats, and ferries; schools and churches; hotels, saloons, and blacksmith shops that once served this fertile and bustling area. |
