A Glance Back: Northern Mendocino County History A Glance Back is a history and photograph collection beginning in the 1860s of the far northwestern section of Mendocino County, California about 200 miles north of San Francisco. This book is part of the history that Margarite Cook, a local historian, collected for 60 years beginning in the late 1920s. Diane Hawk did extensive research to complete the volume. Readers will enjoy glimpses of old coastal towns from Hardy Creek (where Highway 1 turns inland) north to the Humboldt County line, including Rockport, Usal, Bear Harbor and Needle Rock. There is also history of the old town sites of Kenny, Moody and Andersonia. A large collection of stories, pioneers, highway building and old resorts in the Piercy area is also included. |
